Two types are available for wood floors:

o Solid wood flooring
– Engineered Wood Flooring

Solid Wood Fl can made from 3/4″ thick solid wood and has tongue-and-groove sides that join the boards. Manufacturers may also offer a 5/16 inch version. Solid wood flooring’s greatest benefit is its long-lasting durability. Solid wood floors last 50 years or more. You can get solid wood floors in either prefinished or unfinished wood species.

Solid wood floors can shrink and expand due to humidity changes. This floor is normally installed with a gap between 5/8 and 3/4 inches along the wall. This gap can then be filled with shoe molding or baseboards.

For areas below grade, such as a basement or crawlspace, 3/4 inch thick floors are not recommended. The 5/16″ thinnest wood floors are suitable for this application. For concrete floors, you must follow the manufacturer’s guidelines concerning moisture levels.

There are three types to choose from when it comes to solid hardwood flooring.

The width and thickness of the planks are what define strip flooring. Although the width of strip flooring cannot be altered, its thickness can. The thickness ranges between 5/16″ and 3/4″. It is available in only the following widths: 1-1/2″ – 2-1/2″, 2-1/2″, and 3-3/4″

You can purchase plank flooring in two different thicknesses. Plank flooring is not like strip flooring in that they can come in different widths. It is available in thicknesses between 1/2″ & 3/4″, as well as a wide variety of widths, ranging from 3″ to 8.

Parquet flooring can look very different from regular hardwoods. They are made from individual wood pieces, each with a different pattern.
